Photos tell part of the story. At a showing, take notes on layout, natural light, storage, access, and the things you would want to change. Try the route to your important destinations at the times you would actually travel.
Keep a running question list. If a property has an association, shared spaces, or features you have not owned before, ask what documents and specialist advice will help you understand them.
Your lender can explain financing options and the costs to plan for. The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau’s homebuying resources offer an independent starting point for those conversations.

Ask how inspections, financing, and other milestones could fit into your particular transaction. The details depend on the property and the agreement; your plan should reflect both.

Once you’re moving forward, keep your calendar, documents, and questions in one place. Clarify the next milestone with the professionals involved. Discuss your final walkthrough, possession arrangements, utility changes, and moving plans before the last week arrives.

Buying a condo or townhome in Bothell?
A townhome’s appearance does not tell you its ownership structure. Washington’s Office for Regulatory Innovation and Assistance explains that townhomes can be organized as condominiums or within homeowners’ associations. The recorded documents establish the shared rules and responsibilities.
- Property: confirm what you own, which spaces are shared and who maintains the roof, exterior and access areas.
- Ongoing costs: review the budget, dues, available reserve information and any assessments with the appropriate professionals.
- Daily use: check parking, pets, rental restrictions and alteration rules against your plans.
- Condition and financing: ask your inspector, lender and insurance adviser what they need to evaluate this particular property.
